Beyond the Horizon by R. Srinivasan

Narrative Expression in Written and Artistic Forms

Hailing from the royal city of Mysore, R. Srinivasan is a Bengaluru-based artist whose work reflects a lifetime of travel, observation and fascination with colour, landscape and memory. Art has been part of his life since childhood, a quiet passion that remained constant through decades spent across countries, cultures and continents.

While his professional life took him across India, France, Singapore, the Middle East, Africa and China as CEO of several multinational companies, art remained a personal form of expression. His career saw him contribute to the journey of more than 1.7 billion smart cards and SIM cards across global markets, and his contributions to industry were recognized with the Udyog Ratan Award. Yet throughout, he continued to see the world with the curiosity of an artist.

In recent years, Srinivasan has devoted himself to acrylic painting, developing a body of semi-abstract landscapes and contemporary compositions. His work moves between realism and abstraction, often beginning with a recognizable place, structure or memory before transforming it through bold colour, simplified form, layered texture and expressive brushwork. Mountains become fields of colour, skies expand into luminous atmospheres, and water, architecture and urban spaces are reimagined through emotion.

His subjects range from nature and travel to heritage, spirituality and the changing face of modern India. Works such as *Shri Ramanujacharya, Vidhana Soudha,* and *Urbanization* reveal the breadth of his visual language, moving from cultural and architectural identity to questions of growth, transformation and contemporary life.

Travel remains central to his practice. Whether painting in his Bengaluru studio or while travelling and creating works before the snow-capped Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the turquoise waters of the Indonesian archipelago, the cities and countryside of Europe and Asia, and landscapes closer to home in India, Srinivasan is drawn to changing light, distant horizons and the dialogue between land, water and sky.

He exhibited at Chitra Santhe at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in 2017, 2019 and 2020, followed by his first solo exhibition in 2023. His works form part of private collections across Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Australia, London, Switzerland and the United States.

His upcoming autobiography, A Billion Cards and a Life to Love, is being published by a nationwide publisher, with select signed pre-launch copies available at his solo art exhibition 'Beyond the Horizon' at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, from 10th to15th Nov, 2026.

For Srinivasan, painting is an act of gratitude, a way of translating a richly travelled life into colour, form and feeling.
